Hey there! Feeling overwhelmed these days? Yeah, us too. Between work, family, and that never-ending news cycle, it’s easy to forget to take care of ourselves. But guess what? Taking care of you isn’t selfish, it’s your superpower!

Think about it: how can you be your best self for the people and things you care about if you’re running on fumes? That’s where self-care comes in. It’s about nurturing ourselves – body, mind, and soul – so we can show up as the awesome humans we are.

Self-Care 101: Beyond the Basics

We all know about eating healthy, sleeping enough (easier said than done, right?), and showering regularly (hopefully!).But self-care is more than just the bare minimum. It’s about activities that make you feel good, from the inside out.

Here are some ideas to get your self-care juices flowing:

  • Body: Whip up some yummy, healthy meals (think farmers markets for local goodness!), get your sweat on with some exercise you enjoy, and don’t forget to schedule those checkups with your doc. Feeling tense? Treat yourself to a massage – bonus points for DIY options with natural ingredients!

Pro-Tip: Make your self-care sustainable! Look for organic produce with minimal packaging, stock up at refill stores to reduce waste, and support BIPOC-owned farms and businesses whenever you can. ♻️

  • Mind & Emotions: Feeling stressed? Deep breathing, meditation, or yoga can work wonders. Nature is another great stress-buster, so take a walk in the park or just sit outside for a few minutes. Spending time with loved ones, doing something you enjoy (even if it’s just for a few minutes!), and setting healthy boundaries are all part of a happy mind. Feeling down? Gratitude and challenging negative thoughts can be super helpful. And remember, there’s no shame in seeking professional help if you need it.

Pro-Tip: Be mindful of whose land you’re visiting when you’re out in nature. There are resources online to help you learn more about Native Lands (see the bottom of this post). And for your mental and emotional care, consider supporting BIPOC therapists, counselors, and other service providers (links for this are at the bottom too).

  • Spirit: Take some time for reflection, meditation, or prayer. What makes you tick? Connecting with your values and purpose can be super grounding. Activities like spending time in nature, listening to music, or creating art can nourish your spirit in amazing ways.

Pro-Tip: Get creative and repurpose old items for your art projects! Reduce, reuse, recharge! ♻️

Remember: Self-care is a personal journey. What works for your best friend might not be your cup of tea. The key is to find activities that make YOU feel amazing.
